A former Army Special Forces Staff Sergeant with a tour of duty in Vietnam, Richard P. Stevens earned a BA in Art at the University of Florida, a MFA in Studio Art at Florida State University, and a Master in Public Administration at Florida State University. Although primarily educated and trained as an artist in drawing and painting, he worked for over 10 years as an environmental graphic designer before moving into state-level higher education administration. During his time as an environmental graphic designer he also served as a voting member on several art selection committees for various state-owned buildings under the Florida Art in Public Places program, and was the principal designer for the original architectural signage and donor recognition plaques/monuments for the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art in Gainesville, Florida. His role in higher education included involvement with organizations and groups coordinating the establishment of digital art and digital media education programs throughout Florida, and also the expanded use of distance education technologies. During this period of time he became more intrigued by the imaging capabilities offered by new graphic technologies, and recently began to work primarily in this medium to produce digital images for print. This excursion into digital photographic art has allowed for the creation of images at a much faster pace than drawing or painting, but the end product has retained much of the same color and design sensibilities as his earlier work in oils and colored pencil.

About The Process
Digital photographs taken by the artist are modified through a variety of actions such as cropping, color and lighting adjustments, juxtaposition, distortions, texture filters, and resizing to create what is often a very different image. This new digital image becomes the ‘original work of art’ from which a high-quality print-on-demand can be made using a Canon imagePROGRAF large format printer designed for professionals in graphics, fine art, and photography. The large format printer uses 12-Color LUCIA EX pigment ink, which provides a vibrant color range with improved scratch resistance and smoother color gradations. Most images are designed to be printed on high-quality archival papers or canvas at a specific size, but some customization is possible within artistic and technical parameters.
